Alicia Keys has sparked a bit of controversy with an interview she did with Elle Magazine, with many speculating her comments were a reference to Bajan popstar Rihanna. Speaking on the direction of her music and image, she said she refuses to adjust or change her image every time she has a new record coming out.
“My look isn’t plotted out, like, I’m going to have red hair because it’s a new record. It has to be genuine, not a branding concept.”
Its obvious people are going to point the finger at RiRi as she’s famously known for changing her image every time she has a new album out. The reference to the red hair doesn’t help either. But in Alicia’s defence, Elle is a monthly magazine, so the interview could have been conducted a few weeks ago. Rihanna has only just recently cut and died her hair. It could just be a horrible coincidence. Alicia may not have been referring to Rihanna, but it’s the fact that those comments relate so much to RiRi, that the damage has already been done, whether she meant it or not.
Here’s hoping the two ladies can just brush this one aside.
