This week is a big one for hip-hop music, as Kanye West and Nicki Minaj take the number one and two spots on the Billboard charts. According to Dailey Hits, Kanye’s ‘My Beautiful Dark Fantasy’ album has reportedly shifted an astonishing 518,775 copies – securing the top spot, while Nicki’s ‘Pink Friday’ has reportedly sold an estimated 371,049 units, which sees the Harajuku Barbie debut at an impressive number two…
Just over a year ago, Kanye West was the most hated man in showbiz. Following his infamous 2009 VMA incident, the 33-year-old rapper was public enemy number one; he was forced to cancel his tour with Lady GaGa and even received death threats. Fast forward twelve months later, he’s got the number one album and some critics are even claiming Kanye’s latest LP is the best hip-hop album in the last 10 to 15 years – the same critics who said his career was finished a year ago.
And over a year ago, female rap was pretty much dated, but Nicki Minaj has single-handedly revived it and is currently one of the most exciting rappers (male or female) in the game right now.
Gotta give props where they’re due, congrats guys!
