Missy Elliot‘s one of the best female rappers to have ever graced the mic, but over the last few years Missy’s been pretty MIA and has strayed away from the limelight.
Now the ‘Get Your Freak On’ star has revealed why she took a break from the limelight, revealing she’s battling an autoimmune condition called Graves’ disease.
The pint size rapper/producer tells People magazine that she was diagnosed in 2008 and the condition has affected her writing and driving.
“I was (driving and) trying to put my foot on the brake, but my leg was jumping. I couldn’t keep the brake down and almost crashed… I couldn’t write because my nervous system was so bad – I couldn’t even use a pen.”
Missy went on to explain that she experienced hair loss and mood swings and has had radiation therapy to improve her condition.
“I’m 30 pounds lighter because I’ve been exercising. My thyroid is functioning, so I haven’t had to take medication in about nine months. (But) you live with it for the rest of your life.”
Get well soon missy xoxo
