I’m all for pushing the boundaries in the name of fashion, but having a full nude runway show in order to promote hats just seems
a lot a little far fetched and more about ‘shocking’ people and gaining cheap publicity rather than being primarily about the designs.
Glamour model and former Miss Wales Sophia Cahill appeared at Welsh milliner Robyn Coles’ debut show wearing nothing but a series of striking hats.
She took to the catwalk at the White Rabbit Studio in Shoreditch, east London, with four other nude models, including actor and comedian Jeff Leach.
Coles, 31, from Pontypool, South Wales, said she wanted to include Cahill, who is a friend from home, because it is rare to see pregnant women on the catwalk.
‘She was one person I knew would be more than happy to get her kit off. I thought it would be nice she would be pregnant for the show. You never see that kind of thing in fashion.’
Coles said it was important for her to use models of different shapes and sizes in her show, but admitted her main motivation for getting them naked was for publicity.
‘As an unknown designer you have to find ways of getting people to your show. I wanted to use different models and different sizes. I’m a big believer in that. With accessories like hats it doesn’t mater what size or shape you are.’
In the show Cahill sported three peacock blue hats, all with blue and maroon adornments.
Coles said: ‘All the hats are felt for autumn/winter so they are ideal for winter weddings and races. Winter hats don’t have to be monochrome.’
The designer would not confirm if her future shows would feature fully nude models, merely saying: ‘I’ve got loads of stupid ideas for next time.’
Well the publicity stunt seems to have worked, as it’s made all the fashion headlines. But now let’s see if the publicity translates into hat sales….
OK, so now we know who won what, the other exciting part of the awards is who wore what? And watching the stars hit the red carpet, seeing who’s a style hit and who’s a total miss.
Not content with stealing the fasion show at last weeks Grammys, Rihanna‘s gone and done it again, looking ultra sexy and fabulous in this demure gold stud Givenchy dress.
Check out some of the other stars who also worked the red carpet last night in true style…
Adele looking divine in black.
Kylie looks old skool glam in this fab blue number
TOWIE star Lydia bright looks demure in Peach, while Caroline Flack shows off her toned pins.
Jo Whiley and Lana Del Rey both looking classy and sexy.
And those who didn’t quite get it right….
Cher Lloyd and the usually stylish Florence Welch both looked a little scary.
Emma Bunton and Emeli Sande’s oufits were rather unflattering
Jessie J’s see-through red sheer Scarlet gown is daring and ambitious, but for me it’s more of a miss than a hit.
Plan B looked a little disheveled.
And The Male Awards Goes To…
One Direction: Those handsome younglads sure do scrub up well…
The nation fell in love with Kate Middleton because of her down to earth girl-next-door demeanor. ButKelly Osbourne seems to think the Duchess of Cambridge should be more ‘diva-like’.
During a recent interview with Jay Leno on The Tonight Show, Ms. Osbourne slammed Prince William‘s wife for wearing the same outfits more than once.
“If I am going to be the future bloody Queen of England I’m going to wear that dress once because I’m giving up the rest of my life, all of my privacy, at least I can get a new dress every day.”
I think it’s great she wears an outfit more than once. I like Kelly O, but in this situation she needs to just shut it.
Jay-Z should change his name to Jay-$ because the man is a true businessman. The rap mogul is expanding his empire and has purchased trendy clothing line Billionaire Boys Club – which is owned byPharell Williams.
The Empire State of Mind hitmaker has obtained the licensing to manufacture and distribute the Billionaire Boys Club label via his Rocawear brand.
According to GQ.com, the hip-hop stars will work “as a tandem” to capitalise on “Jay Z’s business prowess and Pharrell’s creativity” to boost the profile of the line, which Williams established in 2005 with his designer friend Nigo.
Jay Z sold the rights to Rocawear to the Iconix Brand Group in 2007, but he remains a shareholder and is still in charge of product development, marketing and licensing.
Now that’s a very clever business move.
Newly appointed X-Factor Judge Tulisa Contostavlos will reportedly receive a staggering £70,000 makeover ahead of the TV talent show’s return next month because ITV bosses fear the 22-year-old singer’s look is “too chavvy”.
The N-Dubz star has apparently been teamed up with celeb stylist Gemma Sheppard to help transform her style into a more sophisticated and demure look.
Former Destiny’s Child singer and fellow judge Kelly Rowland has reportedly been given a £40,000 style allowance.
A production source told The Sun:
“They put aside so much for Tulisa because you don’t get a second chance to make a first impression. They want her to be the new nation’s sweetheart. She looked too chavvy and cheap on the first-day auditions so producers gave her a bigger budget for clothes and styling.
“They want her to have a designer look with chic class – more Posh Spice than Vicky Pollard in Little Britain, which was how she has looked more than a few times.”
According to the insiders, the move came when Tulisa turned up to the first audition show in Birmingham last month in less than flattering black jumpsuit. The source added: “We thought she’d turned up in her pyjamas. Something had to be done.”
I think Tulisa looks absolutely fabulous just the way she is. But hey, if someone’s giving you a free 70k makeover, take it and own it…

Well it should be more like what the f*ck is Lady Gaga (not) wearing?
Lady Gaga, Kanye West and a host of other celebs and fashionista’s recently came out for the 2011 CFDA Fashion Awards at New York’s Lincoln Center. And while the show itself went smoothly and completely drama-free, during the afterparty Gaga made sure she stole the show and made all the headlines, by taking off all her clothes.
The Bad Romance singer took off the black Thierry Mugler dress she wore during the show and strutted on the dancefloor in nothing but a completly see-through sheer bodysuit, a blue bob wig, a G-string and nipple tassels.
Well, she’s wore her bra and knickers so many times, it was only a matter of time before she stepped out in just a thong and nipple tassels. I’m a BIG Lady Gaga fan, I think she’s creative and a breath of fresh air, but all these ‘shock value’ naked publicity stunts are getting a little bit tired now. What would be more shocking is if Gaga turned up to an event in a plain white t-shirt, jeans, and air of Jordan’s. Now that would be shocking…
Check out some pics from the event below:
All you rap fans who are eargely waiting the release of Kanye West and Jay-Z‘s joint album Watch The Throne, you’ll probably be waiting a long time, ’cause Yeezy has more fashionable things on his mind.
The flamboyant rapper is reportedly working on his own clothing line in Paris. A source close to Mr. West tells The Telegraph the 33-year-old ‘All Of The Lights’ star has set up shop at a studio in Paris to begin work on his new fashion range.
This is clearly something Kanye feels strongly about. He reportedly once said fashion is more of a passion for him than music and in 2009 scrapped plans for his Pastelle line and most recently he released a line of limited edition scarves.
Well Kanye, I know you love fashion and everything, but please don’t desert music…
I love Lady GaGa, I’m a big fan and everything, but my God does this woman love to court attention. The Bad Romance singer wore these eyebrow-raising penis designed boots during her recent appearance on American Idol.
I’m all for pushing the fashion boundaries and self expression blah blah blah, but knowing that American Idol is a family friendly show, GaGa knew she was bound to cause some kind of controversy and public ‘outrage’.
But hey, at least she’s promoting British fashion. The boots are by London fashion brand Void of Course and cost and an eye watering $4,560.
I wouldn’t pay that much for penis boots…
Kanye West has openly expressed his love for all things fashion. He apparently even applied to do a fashion course at London’s St. Martin’s University. Well, now Yeezy is putting his style skills to use, as he’s just débuted his new line of scarves.
Collaborating with French design partnership M/M (Paris), the flamboyant rapper’s five-piece limited-edition silk designer scarves are inspired by the artwork from his My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy LP and go on sale on Monday. The silk-printed images, named Power, Phoenix, Face, Priest, and Ballerina, are based on West’s musical fantasies and include the controversial nude album cover.
I must say I’m really feeling the scarves, they’re very creative. But if you’re thinking of getting yourself some Kanye-style swag, it comes with a hefty price tag. They’re on sale for $365 apiece. And there are only 100 of each design being made.
