The day has finally arrived. The count down ends today, because ladies (and gents) Sex And The City 2 is officially out TODAY. And against all temptation, I have waited for this day, its official release day, to see the movie. Tonight I’m meeting up with some girlfriends – who are all Sex And The City fanatics like myself – we’re going to have some girlie chit chat over Cosmopolitans (of course) and then watch the movie – Yaaay!
As a tribute to the movie’s release, I present you……
Five Iconic Things From Sex And The City
New York is a fabulous city: The Big Apple, NYC, The City That Never Sleeps, The Concrete Jungle, whatever you want to call it, it’s simply amazing. There’s just sooo much to do. You could never get bored there. It’s also a very inspiring place t be. In the words of Alicia Keys; “The lights will inspire you,” and that’s so true. Every time I’m in NY I feel like anything is possible, the skies the limit. I spend a lot of time there and I just can’t get enough of it. Sex And The City director and writer Michael Patrick King often describes New York as the unofficial 5th character… that’s so true.
Carrie Bradshaw single handedly put Cosmo’s on the map for many young women around the world. I was about 13 years old when I started watching Sex And The City and I remember thinking ‘when I’m old enough to go to bars, I’m going to have a Cosmo’ – yep, that’s a true story. In the 90’s Sex And The City popularized the vodka based Martini glass drink, making it the drink of choice for the sassy independent big city girl. In the first movie instalment, Carrie says she stopped drinking Cosmo’s “because everyone else started,” but no matter what, Cosmopolitan’s will forever be associated with the show, as the favourite drink of its iconic lead character.
When Carrie went to the exclusive Bungalow 8, a club that requires guests to have a ‘special key’ in order to gain entry, it seemed like everybody in town wanted to visit the exclusive venue and see just what was inside the famous Bungalow. Unfortunately I haven’t been to the New York one. When I was last in New York it was closed for refurbishment.
But I am a regular in the London Bungalow 8. There’s no special key, but their saying is “What happens in 8 stays in 8.” So I can’t really say too much, as I’m sworn to secrecy haha. What I will say is it’s a great place. I always have the most fun when I’m there. I highly recommend it. Next time I’ll hit up the NYC branch. They’ve actually got one in Amsterdam now as well – I definitely have to check that out real soon.
Ann Summers Rampant Rabbit
The Rampant Rabbit is a popular vibrator, specially designed by UK lingerie store Ann Summers. The rabbit has always been a popular product, but when Sex And The City sexpot, Samantha Jones used the Rabbit in season one, sales of the bunny inspired vibrator shot to new highs, making it a global must have. Since the airing of that SATC episode, many retailers sell products that are inspired by or similar, but the actual genuine Rampant Rabbit can only be bought in Ann Summers, anything else is simply an imitation. And fashionista’s like Carrie and co don’t do imitation.
I haven’t tried the Rabbit myself, so unfortunately I can’t give you any personal feedback, but I was watching GMTV recently and Holly Willoughby and guests were reviewing a selection of sex toys and they gave the Rabbit top marks, saying it was definitely one of the best on the market. Once again SATC never steers us wrong.
Shopping and fashion is one of the most important things in Sex And The City. Carrie Bradshaw is an international style icon. I actually can’t name a better dressed individual. One of Carrie’s biggest fashion loves is shoes: Jimmy Choo’s, Christian Louboutin, Karen Millen, you name it, if it’s hot, she’s wearing it. And she starts trends, never follows. The shoe that I’d say represents Carrie the most has got to be Manolo Blahnik’s. She made you want a pair of Manolo’s, even if they were slightly past your usual footwear budget.
Despite SATC making Monolo Blahnik’s a fashion must-have and one of the most iconic shoes in fashion history, the 67 year old Spanish designer is fed up of being associated with the hit show, claiming he never wanted to be a “celebrity designer.” Although he credits the series for helping turn his shoes into a big money-making empire, he’s keen to distance himself from it.
“If people talk to me about Sex And The City, I get sick,” he revealed in an interview with The Sunday Telegraph on Sept. 6 last year. “The taxi drivers recognize me now. It becomes too much and I don’t feel comfortable. I have never wanted to be a celebrity designer.”
Well he most certainly won’t like this post then, not that he’s ever going to see it anyway, so it’s all good. That’s gratitude for you though, isn’t it? We still love your shoes though Mr. Blahnik.
So there you have it. Five iconic things about Sex And The City. I can’t wait to see the movie tonight.
